Zenitum Receives a Research Grant from Ministry of Culture
SEOUL, JUNE, 30, 2004, Zenitum Entertainment Computing, Inc. receives a research grant from the Ministry of Culture & Tourism (http://www.mct.go.kr). Under the “Cultural Contents Technology Development Project,” Zenitum had applied the research subject, “3D Mixed Reality Engine for Mobile Hand-set.” By conducting a year-long R&D, Zenitum will bring small foot-print embedded version of Mixed Reality (or Augmented Reality) engine for the mobile hand-set such as cell phones with 3D capability. For the research, Zenitum was awarded 200,000,000 WON (About USD $ 200,000).
Mixed Reality (MR) is the technology enabling mix of real scene with virtual objects. From the research, Zenitum offer the technology hunger users new 3D technology which brings real and virtual world together. Using the cell phone camera, users can see virtual pets (VirPET) on his palm or on the desk. VirPET will move along with the movement of his palm or the desk. For example, if the user flips the palm, the VirPET falls from his palm. In this Zenitum can provide varieties of 3D mobile contents from edutainment to adult contents. The system and the service will be launched in Mid-2005.
